Every maintenance manager on a rig knows what the right answer is: inspect on schedule, fix small problems while they are small, never let a component run to failure. And every one of them knows what actually happens: the AFE tightens, the drilling program slips, and the PM interval quietly becomes "when we get a chance." Reactive maintenance is not cheaper; it is just deferred.
